UNU has been predicting English Premier League games every week with fantastic results, including an 8-2 record on the midweek matches a few days ago. We convened our Swarm Intelligence again to take a look at every game set to be played in the EPL this coming weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
To help pull the deepest insight from what our swarms tell us, we asked the participants two questions about each upcoming match. With the first question, we want to see how the Swarm Intelligence thinks the game’s result will come in by simply asking the swarm who will win and by how many goals. Given that initial knowledge, we ask the swarm to recommend a theoretical wager on the match, between $0 and $100.
We use an expression of money and wagering in that second question, but what we’re really asking is best understood as an expression of relative confidence, rather than an actual betting recommendation. Here’s how this looks in practice, using one of the swarm’s most confident results – Chelsea vs Crystal Palace – to illustrate. You can see that the swarm favors Chelsea in this match between the league leaders and a side fighting to avoid relegation. Perhaps mindful of how the Blues struggled on the road Wednesday against lowly Sunderland, our swarm felt quite confident in another win, but not by more than a single goal.
