Researchers show that Swarms are smarter than Crowds
In a study published by researchers at Unanimous and Oxford University, a crowd of 469 football fans were pitted against a Swarm A.I. of only 29 fans. The crowd used standard polling, while the swarm formed a real-time system in UNU. The groups competed to predict a set of 20 official “prop bets” for the 2016 Super Bowl. The swarm was 68% accurate, outperforming 98% of the individuals and producing a 36% profit. The crowd was only 47% accurate and produced a gambling loss, despite having 16 times the number of participants.
