Swarming MLB: AI Picks for the 2017 Postseason

At first glance, there’s not a whole lot of potential drama brewing in Major League Baseball’s pennant races in the final month of the season. Only the American League East and National League Central are close at this point, so the excitement in baseball’s postseason chase appears to lie entirely with wildcard picks and end of season individual awards.

This week a swarm of baseball fans was asked to make postseason predictions. They see the Yankees and the upstart Twins emerging with American League wildcard berths. Over in the National League, the swarm predicts that three playoff teams will come out of the West, with Arizona and Colorado as the wild cards. As far as post-season awards go, the same swarm thinks little Jose Altuve’s historic season will be more than enough to win him the AL MVP award. In the National League MVP race, the swarm thinks that if Giancarlo Stanton can keep up his torrid pace he’ll edge Paul Goldschmidt.

Finally, like many baseball pundits, the MLB Swarm AI has tabbed the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the World Series. The swarm sees a hard-fought six-game series vs the Houston Astros. Considering the accuracy of last year’s midseason predictions of the Chicago Cubs over the Cleveland Indians, it seems like now is a good time to mention that a wager on the Dodgers to win the World Series pays +210.
