Swarming MLB: AI Picks for June 27

More than any other major team sport, baseball is an incredibly unpredictable game. The very nature of the sport creates situations where small variables – a strike not called, a line drive down the line landing foul by an inch – can create massive outcome swings in the final score. Many sports claim to be a game of inches, but in baseball that’s truly the case.

Unanimous A. I. is very aware of this. When the swarm was posting a stellar 31-13 record across three recent sessions it was understood that such numbers were probably not sustainable, at least not at this point in the season. Friday saw our swarm with a pretty aggressive regression to the mean, a 5-win performance that was the weakest since April. If there’s any consolation, that number was in keeping with a mediocre performance by Vegas bookmakers, so the UNU Baseball Swarm at least had some company.

When the UNU Baseball Swarm expresses a large amount of confidence in a game prediction, sometimes that prediction is made solely off the attributes of a single team. For instance, tonight the swarm really likes the Dodgers hosting their crosstown rivals, the Angels. The Angels are having a solid season, two games over .500 and in the thick of a wild card chase. The Dodgers, however, have won 16 of their last 18 and are currently destroying all comers. Dave Roberts’ club is zipping along at an eyepopping 32-11 clip at home, meaning it would be a pretty stunning upset if the Angels were to take this one. Our swarm is all in on the Dodgers here.

Every week during the MLB season, Unanimous A.I. will be conducting swarms to pick the outcomes of games. If you’d like to either join a swarm or just get the predictions weekly, click the button below.
