Swarming the NHL: UNU’s Picks for March 16th, 2017

Swarm A.I. taps Capitals as the Pick of the Week

Although March Madness is front and center for sports fans this week, Unanimous A. I. was eager to get back to predicting hockey games. The group of NHL fans that forms this weekly UNU NHL Swarm continues to demonstrate the power of thinking together as a swarm intelligence by managing a 7-3 record last week in 10 games. UNU, the Swarm A.I. created by Unanimous A.I. helps this swarm of fans to amplify their intelligence and individual knowledge of the NHL to produce remarkable insights into how these hockey matchups may play out.

For Today’s swarm we have a full slate of a dozen NHL games to consider. We’re in an important time in the season with less than a month before the start of the playoffs. While teams at the top of the standings wrestle for postseason position, those in the middle are fighting for their playoff lives. Three teams in the Western Conference — Nashville, St. Louis, and Los Angeles — are locked in an epic fight to grab just two playoff spots. Currently the Kings are on the outside looking in, but the UNU NHL Swarm thinks they can make up some ground tonight.

In addition, both the Predators and the Blues have tough road games tonight. Nashville takes on the high flying Capitals in DC, and the swarm thinks the Caps are the best bet, pick of the night.

On the west coast, St. Louis takes on the outstanding San Jose squad that knocked the Blues from the playoffs last year. By contrast, the Kings play at home. While the young, fast-skating Sabres are hardly an easy game, the swarm thinks Los Angeles can take it.

There are plenty of other fascinating games on the NHL schedule tonight, and the UNU Swarm picked them all. As the table below shows, this swarm didn’t shy away from some road underdogs or tough picks at home. Click on the table to see replays of each decision for this evening’s games.
