Swarming EPL: AI Picks for December 12th

It was a tough weekend for both our weekly EPL swarm and the Premiership teams in the top third of the table. The only top six teams to come out of the week 16 matches feeling good were league-leading Manchester City and sixth-place Tottenham. Chelsea somehow lost to West Ham, and both Arsenal and Liverpool left points on the pitch by suffering draws to inferior competition. Like those teams, the weekly soccer swarm got right back on the horse to consider the midweek slate of games.

The high confidence tier of the chart is filled with many of the usual suspects. Manchester City is the swarm’s unsurprising pick of the week to defeat Swansea City in Wales. One team that we haven’t highlighted lately that at first glance looks a bit out of place is Arsenal. The Gunners sit in our high confidence predictions tier, despite being the only team in that group the swarm thought would only win by one. Here’s the replay:

The 81% Brain Power might also give some pause here, but the replay tells a much more complete story for how the swarm predicted this match. One of the things our research team looks for is how much general consensus there is with a pick; that is, how many magnets are pulling to the left or right of the hex on a two-choice question. Here we can see that there’s tremendous agreement by the magnets that Arsenal will take this match, and that low Brain Power score rises out of the need to compromise between a faction pulling for a more comfortable win and those who see it a little closer. The swarm’s $80 confidence factor wager helps to provide reinforcement and confirmation of this pick as being one made with a high degree of certitude.

Every week, researchers at Unanimous AI gather a Swarm of EPL fans to predict all of the weekend’s action. Want to join the Swarm, or just have the picks delivered to your inbox? Click the button below…
