Swarming EPL: AI Picks for the Weekend of October 20th

As the Premier League season approaches the end of its first quarter, it’s fair to say that there’s been no shortage of surprises. Unlike last year, when the top six slots in the table were filled by Big Six teams, this year some upstarts (we see you, Watford) have jumped into the top-of-the-standings mix. And this year’s newly promoted teams show no eagerness to enter the relegation zone and have played some quality soccer so far.

The English Premier League Swarm gathers each week of the season to predict the outcomes of matches. Unlike any other sport that uses our Swarm AI platform for predictions, the Premiership brings its own unique challenge: the tie game. Ties (or draws if you like) are typically an unintended consequence in most matches, and represent a variable, third outcome that has to be reckoned with and is typically difficult to call with high accuracy. With that in mind, here’s how the swarm sees this weekend’s matches.

We’ve talked about variables today, but one thing that’s been bankable all year is Man. City, who currently stand astride the Premiership like a colossus. Even with goal-scoring threat Sergio Aguero laid up with rib injuries after a car accident, they’ve been deep enough to simply run opponents off the pitch, frequently scoring more than five goals per match. As you can see in the replays below, the swarm thinks that despite reputations the tenacious Burnley side will fare no better this weekend. Everything here falls into place for our top pick of the week. We’ve got a high confidence expression with plenty of Brainpower. That aligns nicely with the high wagering confidence. And when we asked about a pick of the week, this was the choice, again with high confidence.
