It had to happen sometime. The UNU Baseball Swarm did the unthinkable last night. Ordinarily, I’d follow that up with a line about another insane Return on Investment from betting the Swarm’s picks, but, it is my solemn duty to record just the opposite this week…
For the first time ever, the Swarm finished below .500. On Monday night, the Swarm was asked to predict the outcome of 15 games being played on Tuesday, September 13th. Of those games, 2 were deemed by the Swarm as “too close to call.” Of the remaining 13 games, the Swarm went…6-7.
Wait, that’s not that bad. No, it’s not. In fact, the 6-7 record kinda confirms what we’ve been seeing throughout the UNU Baseball experiment. The Swarm’s worst weeks tend to be right around .500, 8-5, 7-6, and now 6-7. Which makes sense – as we say every week, baseball is notoriously difficult to predict. And, of course, our best weeks have been great – 11-4, 12-3, etc. What’s most interesting is the result we haven’t seen, which is the Swarm going 3-12, or 4-11.
The Swarm’s overall record at this point remains an outstanding 94-53, or 64%.
So, listen. I don’t want to jinx anything, because obviously we’re still early in this experiment and anything is possible, but I think that, 11 attempts in, if the worst performance is a single game below .500, and the best performances are wildly positive, well, I’m still very much a believer in the Swarm. And, I’m still gonna put my money where my mouth is….even if it doesn’t always work out 🙂
