One of the most interesting things about the start of the 2018 NHL season has been the way a few traditional hockey powerhouses have fallen on hard times. Contrast that with some clubs – Toronto especially – who have been also-rans for years who suddenly appear ready to make a serious Cup run. It’s obviously very, very early and easy to wave away October wins as hardly being predictive of playoff success…but if it worked for the Vegas Golden Knights last year, why not some new Cinderella emerging just a few games into this season? Keeping in mind these very early season trends, the NHL swarm made this set of predictions for Tuesday night’s games.
One hockey club that could be poised to surprise the league this season is the Colorado Avalanche. They made the postseason last year and put a scare into the powerful Nashville Predators before being eliminated in six games. The ‘Lanche is off to a good start this season, and they face off tonight in New York against the Rangers. The New York club may be headed for one of their worst years in a long time as they square up for a lengthy rebuilding process; perhaps that’s why the swarm made this their only high confidence prediction today.
In the replay above, you can see the only game the swarm picked from tonight’s slate of matchups with a two-goal margin. While that isn’t necessarily indicative of a wagering spread, it does help to assign a high confidence measure to the forecast. The swarm also picked this game as their pick of the night for the day’s schedule.
