Swarming the EPL: UNU’s Picks for the Final Weekend

Winning, as they say, is fun. And last week the UNU Premier League Swarm sure did have a lot of fun. Our weekly swarm picks were correct in 10 of 11 games…and in that one miss, the swarm’s pick of a draw came within five minutes of happening! Astute observers will note that the 10 games picked correctly for week 37 of the Premiership season were the top 10 games ranked by confidence in last week’s chart.

And so we come now to week 38, the Sunday wrap to the long EPL season. Unfortunately, unlike last week there’s much less for many of the teams in the league to play for. Chelsea are the champions, Tottenham is rooted in second, and at the bottom of the standings it’s been determined that Hull City, Middlesbrough, and Sunderland will be banished to the kid’s table for 2018. With so many teams playing on shaky motivations, it makes for some difficult picks, even for UNU.

The area of interest to watch on Sunday is the battle to secure a top 4 position. Man. City, Liverpool, and Arsenal would all like to get there, and all will be playing with that in mind. For City, the task is the simplest. They likely have already secured their spot based on goal differential, but a win or a tie will clinch it. For Liverpool and Arsenal, things are tougher. Liverpool takes fourth if they can win. If they draw or lose, however, Arsenal can jump in and take their spot. Both teams play at home Sunday, and the swarm thinks Arsenal will win…but unfortunately for the Gunners, UNU says Liverpool will handle lowly Middlesbrough and hold the final spot in the top four.
