Week 5 was a strong week for UNU Football. The UNU Football Swarm met last Thursday to make its Week 5 Picks, which were recorded here on the blog, HERE.
Only 14 games were played in Week 5 of the NFL, but only 13 lines were offered at the time of the UNU Football Swarm, because Cam Newton’s status for Monday Night Football was uncertain. No games were deemed “too close to call” by the Swarm, so 13 predictions were made, and then 2 bonus questions were posed, predicting the Carolina / Tampa Bay game with and without Cam Newton.
In those 13 games, the Swarm went 7-5-1, generating a 10.5% Return on Investment. Even better, if you had followed the Swarm’s recommendation to bet the Bucs in Newton’s absence, that ROI would jump to 16%. Not bad.
Here’s the breakdown. As you’ll notice, the Swarm’s highest confidence pick, the Steelers -7.5, won in convincing fashion.
WINS
Pittsburgh -7.5 – High Confidence ( Steelers by 18 )
Minnesota -7 – High Confidence ( Vikings win by 18 )
Buffalo + 2 Low Confidence ( win by 11 )
Indianapolis -4.5 – Low Confidence ( win by 6 )
Washington +3.5 – Low Confidence ( win by 6 )
New England -11 – High Confidence ( wins by 20 )
Dallas +1 – Low Confidence ( wins by 14 )
LOSSES
Philadelphia -3 High Confidence ( Lions win by 1 )
Denver -6 High Confidence ( Falcons win by 7 )
Oakland -3.5 – Low Confidence ( Oak won by 3, this one hurts )
Mia -3.5 – Low Confidence ( lose by 13 )
San Francisco +3.5 – Low Confidence ( lose by 12
PUSH
Green Bay -7 – High Confidence ( Green Bay wins by 7 = push )
Then, we asked the Swarm to register two predictions for the Carolina / Tampa Bay game. First, we wanted to know who would win if Cam Newton played, and that prediction, recorded
HERE, shows a pick for the Panthers by six points. Of course, Newton didn’t play, and so the Swarm’s other prediction came into play:
As you may know, when the sportsbooks did finally set the lines for the game, Tampa Bay was the clear underdog. But, just as the Swarm predicted, Tampa Bay managed to win by 3 points. The Swarm was within a single point of perfection.
As a reminder, you can see the full rundown of the Swarm’s Week 5 Picks on the blog. And, of course, we’ll be meeting on Thursday once again to make our official Week 6 Predictions.
See you there!
