The smartest poker players, sports handicappers and horse track railbirds all share a simple secret to their respective successes: knowing that sometimes the smartest bet in a situation is one you never make. Or, as a great philosopher of Western Civilization once advised, “You’ve got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em.”
Today’s schedule of major league ballgames put our weekly Baseball Swarm AI into that frame of mind. Tough matchups abound for tonight’s games, with very few obvious easy picks. While it might be tempting to accuse the swarm of playing it too safe with today’s predictions, this same group is coming off consecutive 12-3 and 9-4 performances last week. If this swarm wants to take its foot off the gas pedal for a night, well with their recent record we can respect that.
As you can tell by looking at that chart, there just wasn’t a ton of confidence in many games at all tonight, and it’s tough for us to assign “best bet” status to more than a couple of games. So what gives? Tuesday’s schedule is like a perfect storm of imperfect games. For instance, the UNU Baseball swarm has loved picking Houston of late…but they’re playing away from home tonight and facing young pitching phenom Jose Berrios at first place Minnesota. Similarly, the swarm has made hay picking against Bartolo Colon, but tonight Ancient Bart faces an Angels team that’s lost Mike Trout and may be fairly toothless and even a little demoralized.
With “sure things” on tonight’s schedule being very rare, the closest the swarm got to a high confidence pick on Tuesday was the tilt on the Southside between Boston and the White Sox. Although Chicago hurler Jose Quintana has been better of late after a disastrous start to the 2017 campaign, he and his teammates face a tough task with visiting Boston. And even if the Red Sox have been inconsistent as a team this year, Chris Sale has been almost unhittable at times. Perhaps for that reason, the swarm seemed to be strong believers that he’ll help his team to a win.
Every week during the MLB season, Unanimous A.I. will be conducting swarms to pick the outcomes of games. If you’d like to either join a swarm or just get the predictions weekly, feel free to drop us a line below.
