Although it may be Election Day across the United States, the NHL skates out a full slate of nine games this evening. Tonight’s game schedule is one of the most challenging for our swarm in recent memory, across any sport. That’s also consistent with the current lay of the land in the League, with two thirds of all teams bunched up within 3 or 4 games on either side of the .500 mark. The NHL Swarm took a shot at this challenging mix of predictions, and came up with this election night forecast:
Heading into last year’s playoffs, the Tampa Bay Lightning looked like the team to beat. Unfortunately for them, they ran into the buzzsaw Stanley Cup campaign of the Washington Capitols. This season they’re once again looking like the top club in the competitive Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. Tonight they host a resurgent Edmonton Oilers team, winners of 6 of their last 10. The Swarm likes the Lightning in this spot.
Most replay highlights show games with strong confidence, but this one is a little different. With so many even, close matchups this week, there just aren’t any games that look like like empty-netters. This one, for instance, does show a strong number of magnets pulling towards the Tampa side of the hexagon. But with that said, you can also see a small group of magnets showing strong conviction for the Oilers, too. This matchup was indeed the swarm’s pick of the night, but without the usual confidence we often see in such predictions.
