Thanks again to all who joined us for this week’s UNU Baseball predictions. If you weren’t part of this week’s Baseball Swarm, the idea behind it is pretty simple. In nature, groups “swarm” because it allows them to make better decisions than the individuals could on their own. That ability has allowed ants to optimize their colonies, fish to protect themselves from predators, and flocks of birds to navigate their way to shelter.
Now with UNU, we humans can amplify our intelligence by swarming too. And we know one thing people love to do with it: gamble. From the Oscars and Super Bowl, to the Presidential primaries and Kentucky Derby, groups using Swarm Intelligence have made huge returns betting on their own predictions.
The UNU Baseball community is meeting regularly to see how we can do in predicting a day’s worth of Major League Baseball games. Here’s the replay of the Swarm predicting the results of today’s matchup between the San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies.
And below are the results of the 15 predictions the Swarm made about today’s game. I’ve included not only the winner and a link to the replay, but also the “Brainpower” ranking for the Swarm on each game. This is a measure of the Swarm’s conviction and confidence in its answer – the higher the brainpower, the more aligned the Swarm.
I’ve ranked the picks by Brainpower, which indicates the level of conviction expressed by the swarm as a whole. As you will see below, we had we had 5 games at 80 or 81% Brainpower, 4 games in the 70s, 3 games in the 60s, and finally 1 game at 46%. The Brewers game is interesting, though, because the Swarm was not choosing between the Brewers and the Padres, but rather between a large Brewers victory, and a small one. With all this in mind, I’ve placed a series of small bets, the receipts for which are posted below.
Miami Marlins (Fernandez) at Chicago Cubs (Hammel)
UNU says: Cubs Brainpower: 81%
Minnesota Twins (Gibson) at Cleveland Indians (Carrasco)
UNU says: Indians ( by a lot ) Brainpower: 80%
.
UNU says: too close to call Brainpower: 71%
