Swarming March Madness: AI Picks for the Final Four

Although 68 teams got invitations to the “dance” that is March Madness, over the past two weeks 64 of those schools have been velvet-roped out of the club. Just four teams remain, and they’ll meet in San Antonio to decide the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship this weekend.

On one side of the Final Four, the underdogs will meet when West regional champion Michigan (a four seed) takes on South champion Loyola (an eleven seed).  For the swarm of college hoops fans convened by Unanimous AI, this game was the tougher prediction of the two contests on Saturday. The swarm thinks that Loyola’s ball-sharing, sharp-shooting offense gives them a chance, but in terms of defense, rebounding, and coaching they gave the edge to Big Blue and they predict the Wolverines to prevail.

In the other game, two college basketball bluebloods square off when Villanova and Kansas get together. The swarm saw only slight edges for Villanova in this game in terms of coaching, offense, defense, and ball movement…but they gave that slight advantage to the Wildcats in every one of those categories. They chose Villanova as the winner of this game, and had more confidence making this prediction.

With the swarm having predicted the two winners of Saturday’s Final Four contests, it was only natural to have them proceed to make a prediction on their Championship Game matchup. If Monday’s contest does indeed have Michigan and Villanova squaring off, the swarm thinks the high-powered Wildcats have the clear-cut advantage. They predict that Villanova will win that potential matchup with high confidence, and even assigned a high hypothetical wagering confidence on that pick.
