Tuesday’s weekly Baseball Swarm set off some fireworks a day early by posting a 14-1 record across all 15 games the group picked. That’s the single best result for any baseball swarm session since Unanimous began predicting games back in the summer of 2016! The swarm’s performance helped to push the group’s overall record for the season at the start of July to 80 games over .500. By comparison, last year’s swarm finished 100 games over at the end of September. The swarm has predicted ballgames since late May at a 62% clip. Here’s how they see tonight’s schedule.
This week the swarm once again decided to play the role of Charlie Brown running up to kick the football by picking Chris Sale and the Boston Red Sox as their pick of the night over Kansas City. Sale has been outstanding this year, with a 2.41 ERA and a league-leading 164 strikeouts, and the Red Sox are more than capable of beating the second-division Royals. However, the last three or four times the swarm has picked Boston to win with Sale pitching, the results have all been weird, unforeseen losses for a pitcher who gets some of the worst run support in either league.
Even with those fluke-ish results (call it a jinx if you like), it’s hard to not like Boston in this spot, and we see a near-unanimous consensus from the swarm in this case. Not only are all the magnets pulling to the Boston side of the hex, they’re also pulling to that upper quadrant for a 2-plus run win forecast. That’s a huge statement of confidence, backed by the swarm putting its maximum allowed virtual dollar “bet” on this result. Maybe finally the swarm will get to kick the football tonight.
