With the halfway point of the season in the rear-view mirror and Monday’s trade deadline rapidly approaching, we’re right in the middle of biggest grind of the year for most hockey players. This is the time when organizational depth comes into play as a major factor in current and post-season success. Teams that can give their top line players even a few extra minutes of downtime each game will likely reap the rewards in April and May. The weekly swarm of NHL fans has to be aware of which teams have that kind of depth, and how it influences the games being played in the here and now.
The swarm made Boston their pick of the week. Although the Bruins are playing the second half of back-to-back games on the road, our NHL Swarm thought that even so they would be far too much for the disappointing Oilers at Edmonton this evening. Another matchup the swarm loved for tonight has the Philadelphia Flyers playing at home against the Montreal Canadiens.
The Flyers struggled earlier this season and seemed to be teetering on the brink of complete collapse. Philadelphia looked disorganized and lacking in confidence. Now they’re streaking up the Metropolitan division standings and look like a team no one wants to draw in the postseason.
In the replay above, you can see how much faith the swarm has in the Flyers’ recent form. In fact, this game is one the group absolutely loves – Montreal looks like they’re on a big downward slide and will miss the playoffs, while Philadelphia looks like they may challenge for first in the division before too long. In this case, we see the magnets rapidly form a consensus with the Flyers. In fact, that replay shows such a rapid unanimity for Philly, that the $80 wagering confidence they put on the Flyers might almost seem a little low. That slight blip in heavy confidence could simply be due to the swarm coming to grips with how much improved the team is compared to two months ago.
