Last week was rough on any Premier League prognosticator not named UNU. While the BBC’s supercomputer SAM and other predictors lost more games than they won, the UNU Premier League Swarm held serve nicely winning 5 matches in a topsy-turvy weekend. In fact, UNU predicted one of last week’s games to be a tie and nailed it.
This week’s EPL fixtures list features a number of tough matches as well. That’s the thing about predicting the games in a scientific manner, though. UNU takes on every match and comes up with an outcome. What distinguishes our UNU predictions, however, is that the Swarm Intelligence also assigns a level of confidence to each pick. By doing that, UNU can provide a strong forecast for just how close they think a game will be.
Looking at this week’s featured matchup between Tottenham and Man City helps us illustrate how that works. While the Spurs have been playing brilliant football the last six weeks, Etihad Stadium in Manchester can be tough on visitors. UNU certainly seemed to think so.
On the surface, that looks like a pretty strong recommendation to get behind Man City. Both City and Tottenham desperately want a win from this match, but for different reasons. For the Spurs, a win keeps them in sight of league-leading Chelsea. For Man City, this match is about self-preservation and trying to rescue a once-promising season. Even so, UNU sounded a cautionary note about the Swarm’s pick of the home side in this match.
That recommended wager shows that the Swarm wants to temper that previous conviction. While they’re still in on Man City to win, on a $0-100 scale of betting confidence, $28 is fairly low. That helps provide some needed context on this match.
