Swarming MLB: AI Picks for April 17th, 2018

In the offseason, Major League General Managers can retool their roster by making trades and signing free agents, but it is an inexact science. Sometimes it works, and sometimes you’re the 2015 San Diego Padres and win the hot stove league title en route to another last-place finish. That yearly shuffling of players presents a big challenge for the weekly Baseball Swarm to sort through in the season’s first month.

One team that remains a bit of a puzzle after an active offseason is the New York Yankees. The Bronx Bombers added some joules to their offensive firepower by acquiring slugger Giancarlo Stanton in the offseason, but so far they’ve failed to ignite and hung right around just above .500. Tonight the Yanks will try to turn things around as Stanton’s former Miami team—already struggling with the worst record in baseball—pays them a visit.

Although the Yankees have been up and down, they’ve been light years better than a Miami team that was gutted of most of its major league talent in offseason cost-cutting deals. As the replay above shows, the swarm has incredible confidence in a New York win tonight. Not only is there strong consensus to that side of the hex with all the magnets, the swarm’s decision is set for a 2-plus run margin with almost universal consensus. To fully express their confidence, the swarm also made this their pick of the week with a maximum dollar confidence hypothetical wager.
