Swarming MLB: AI Picks for June 9

Each week researchers at Unanimous A. I. bring together baseball swarms on Tuesdays and Fridays to predict the outcome of each respective day’s schedule of games. Part of the process of studying the swarm’s performance means that these UNU Baseball Swarms don’t get to cherry-pick the games they predict. That gives each session its own unique level of difficulty while also ensuring that across a full season Unanimous is able to map performance in a meaningful way.

With the halfway point in the first half of the season getting closer, swarm participants are able to draw on more data to inform their predictions and make game judgments. A team that may have been a surprise by playing well in April is less of a surprise and more like a trend if they continue to sit near the top of the standings in June and July. Similarly, it’s getting a bit late to talk in terms of “disappointing starts” for teams. Clubs that haven’t performed well this year so far aren’t likely to flip a switch now, regardless of March and April optimism.

The Minnesota Twins are an example of a team that fits into the narrative of having been “surprising” early in the year, but now look like a season-long contender in the American League Central. Today they play a Giants team that was at least hoping to contend for a Wild Card playoff spot before the season, but has never gotten untracked. And so, while perhaps it would have been crazy for the swarm to pick the Twins over the San Francisco back in April, with 60-plus games’ worth of data the UNU Baseball Swarm now thinks Minnesota is a pretty reasonable bet.

Every week during the MLB season, Unanimous A.I. will be conducting swarms to pick the outcomes of games. If you’d like to either join a swarm or just get the predictions weekly, feel free to drop us a line below.
