Swarming the NBA: AI Picks for Week 16

With the NBA trade deadline just a week away, teams around the league are in a flurry of activity, both on the court and in the front offices. There seems to be more parity in the league than in many past years, and there are likely as many as 10 teams looking to make a deal that gives them a final push to a deep playoff run. This week the regular NBA Swarm considered a light schedule of games and came up with the following predictions.

The NBA Swarm’s confidence this week might best be described as “wary.” The swarm’s caution makes sense, given how teams have been running hot and cold across the NBA. For instance, the pick of the night for the swarm this week is first-place Boston, who host 10th place New York. Should be an easy, high dollar confidence prediction right? Not so much. Boston has had some struggles lately, and the Knicks always seem to bring their A-game to Boston when these teams meet.

The replay above shows a very confident-looking swarm, overall, so it’s understandable that the group got behind the Celts playing at home for their pick of the night. (They picked Boston over Philly, who are playing on the road; that home vs road team consideration may be the reason for Boston ending up as pick of the night.) And so while there’s a great deal of strong consensus that Boston wins this contest tonight at home, it would be wise to point out that there’s a hint of caution in that hypothetical $60 confidence measurement.
