Swarming the NFL – AI Forecast for the Divisional Playoffs

Last week’s NFL Swarm was one double-doink away from a perfect Wildcard Weekend. Only a last second deflection prevented a game-winning field goal for the Bears and a 4-4 forecast for the Swarm AI. Unlike the unlucky Bears, the show goes on for the NFL Swarm and the weekly group of football fans and enthusiasts has just delivered its forecast for the Divisional Playoffs. Once again, the AI’s forecast is made with a respectful nod to the complexity of playoff football in the NFL, as none of the four games on the schedule made the highest confidence “Best Bet” tier.

Perhaps the most interesting prediction from this week’s chart falls under the High Risk category. While it may the lowest confidence prediction on the chart, anyone picking the underdog Chargers flying east for the second time in a week to beat Tom Brady and the Patriots in Foxboro is particularly noteworthy. As you can see in the replay below, the predicted outcome is the result of a battle between in the swarm, and the same will most likely be true of the matchup on Sunday.

Of course, for those of us for whom no risk is too great, the NFL Swarm also issued an Against the Spread forecast all four Divisional Playoff games. In this instance, the AI was only willing to label one prediction in the recommended “Proceed with Caution” tier. Not surprisingly, it’s the matchup between the Chargers and Patriots. Since the NFL Swarm is on the record predicting a Chargers victory, it might make a lot of sense to take the four points in that contest and not have to fear a last second field-goal turning the tide against the Chargers.
