Network TV singing and talent competitions may come and go, but one show has emerged to stand the test of time. The Voice – which airs twice-weekly on NBC – has had staying power thanks to high-profile celebrity coaches, strong production values, and by featuring strong contestants. Even among those who don’t make the grade on the show, there’s never anything as cringe-inducing as some of the “joke” contestants on other similar singing shows.
Last week, the current season of The Voice (its 14th) reduced its pool of hopeful contestants to 12 finalists. Unanimous brought together a group of fans of the show to make an early prediction on who will win the entire competition.
Right now, in the swarm’s view, this is a two-horse race between Team Kelly’s Brynn Cartelli and Team Alicia’s Britton Buchanan. The swarm was asked how likely each of the top two was to win, and there’s clear separation in the hive mind between these two powerful performers and the other ten on the show.
On last night’s show, all 12 finalists performed, and votes from fans have been tabulated throughout the day. On tonight’s show the bottom two vote-getters will have a sing-off. The winner survives to advance in the competition, while the loser will be sent home. The swarm predicts that Cleveland soul singer D. R. King may be in some trouble.
As knockout rounds in The Voice continue over the next month, Unanimous will bring similar swarms together to predict which contestants will be voted out for each week. The swarm will also re-assess each week to see if Brynn and Britton remain the queen and king of the hill.
Unanimous will be fielding swarms throughout 2018 to track the sentiment of the American public and to identify the trends and behaviors that are shaping our future. If you would like to stay informed of our research, sign up below.
