With the conference tournament (and the automatic March Madness bid it carries) just three weeks away, the weekly basketball fights in the ultra-competitive Atlantic Coast Conference are only growing in intensity. With as many as 10 teams potentially looking to punch a ticket to the Big Dance, the ACC is truly a place where any given team can win at any given time.
The big challenge for ACC teams at the moment is to grab and hold onto one of the top four spots in the conference standings. The top four teams all get “double-byes” to the quarterfinal round in the conference tournament in Brooklyn this March. While Virginia, Duke and North Carolina seem to have a solid grip on the top three spots, Clemson faces a difficult remaining schedule with four teams looking to pounce if they should stumble. Here’s how the swarm predicted the ACC midweek games that start tonight.
Virginia was the swarm’s pick of the week for the second week in a row. The top-ranked Hoos host Georgia Tech on Wednesday, and the swarm thinks they’ll win handily. The most interesting swarm prediction this week, however, might be the pick of Duke at home against Louisville. It was certainly the most difficult prediction for us to classify, so let’s take a deeper look at what the swarm said.
Typically for a prediction to hit our highest “tier” of predictions, the swarm has to pick that team with “high confidence”. As you can see from the replay above, that didn’t happen when the group picked the Blue Devils to win at home against Louisville. But, the swarm also assigned this game a $78 betting confidence, which is consistent with a top tier confidence level.
In the end, this game is right on the cusp; what nudged it (barely) into the highest tier is the way the magnets pull on this prediction. Even though the swarm settles on a “low confidence” prediction, it’s worth noting that nearly every magnet is pulling to the Duke side of the hex. That momentum to the right side where the two Duke choices are lined up is just enough of an edge to lean this prediction into our best bets tier of games this week.
