UNU has been on a roll of late in predicting English Premier League games. After going 8-2 again this past week, UNU has now correctly forecast the results of 16 of the last 20 matches in the EPL. Knowing full well that our regular swarm is on a hot streak, we turned our attention to the big traidtional Boxing Day matches that follow Christmas in the UK.
This week our swarms noticed that there’s a real dichotomy in the matches on offer for the holiday. From what our swarm sees, there are five matches that can be confidently picked, and five that are much more difficult. The UNU swarm considers two questions on every game at minimum, and uses those results to make an ordered list of games by the confidence the swarm has in the outcome. Using that criteria, we found five matches to be very confident in, and five where the outcome is much less clear.
One of the questions we ask the swarm each time out is what kind of wager they’d place on the game. This isn’t strictly an actual betting recommendation at all. What it does is help us establish a level of confidence in the swarm’s pick that may not be obvious from just a first glance.
Let’s illustrate how that works by looking at how the Swarm picked the winner in the upcoming match pitting Arsenal at home against a feisty West Brom squad. If you just read the results of the first swarm question, you’d see that UNU gave Arsenal only a 71% brainpower confidence in pulling out a win. That’s pretty thin by our standards, right? Not so! Look at the actual swarm, and you can see that the lower brainpower is due to our swarm’s hesitation between finding a one or two-goal win for Arsenal, but little doubt at all that the Gunners would carry the result. That’s what our wager confidence question cleans up for us. Looking at that, you can see that we stamped that result with a $39 confidence amount. That’s not particularly high by the standards of previous weeks, but for this week it makes this game one of our top five matches.
Question 1: What will be the outcome of West Brom at Arsenal?
Question 2: How much should we bet on Arsenal to win?
In addition to having our swarm name picks in individual matches, this week we also asked the swarm to tell us what their pick of the week was. We started with 6 candidates, and Swarm by Swarm narrowed it down to just one: red hot Chelsea playing at home over Bournemouth.
