This week the Premier League serves up a mid-week treat for fans, with five make-up games on the slate out in front of the weekend’s regularly scheduled matches. These are contests that were originally postponed back in March to clear the way for Cup ties, turning up now in late April as key matches that could have huge repercussions in the Premiership standings.
The swarm of EPL fans convened regularly by researchers at Unanimous A. I. have a lot of factors to consider for these 5 midweek matches. Will Chelsea show the fine form they displayed in the F. A Cup semifinal on Saturday, or will they revert to their somewhat disorganized play from earlier in the month? Can Arsenal use their stunning win against Man. City as a springboard to secure a top four finish? And speaking of City, they’ve got to move past that defeat quickly, with crosstown rivals Man United making a visit for the always spirited Manchester Derby.
As you can see, the swarm has picked most of these games to stay on form, with the very notable exception of the fight in Manchester on Thursday. In that big rivalry game, the swarm sees a contest that will be so close that even the group’s pick of United seems full of caveats. Another matchup that might be interesting is Chelsea hosting Southampton. Chelsea have barely two days of rest before hosting a quality team and this has all the hallmarks of being a classic trap game. That being said, Chelsea are an incredibly deep side, and the swarm thinks they’ll be able to call on that to keep some distance between themselves and Tottenham heading into the weekend.
