Swarming MLB: AI Picks for July 18th, 2017

The only thing hotter than the weather this month has been the MLB Swarm AI. Friday’s group posted a 10-5 record, making it two straight weeks where the swarm has been into double digit wins. Thanks to a Dodgers ninth inning rally in Miami, it was also a week where the swarm’s highest-confidence picks came in as winners.

For Tuesday’s games, the swarm has to consider that we’re drawing close to the non-waiver trade deadline on July 31st. Some teams are already addressing needs. The Nationals dealt for Oakland’s Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson to shore up one of the leakiest bullpens in baseball.  The Cubs pulled off a deal with their crosstown rivals to acquire impact starting pitcher Jose Quintana. High impact trades like these are a factor that the participants in the UNU Swarm have to keep in mind in the season’s second half.

The algorithms and software that power the Swarm AI platform are incredibly complex in how they allow users to interact with one another to find consensus. That sophisticated software is a great aid in helping to make difficult choices within a group.

For all that tech, however, sometimes an obvious decision jumps out and presents itself. For instance, tonight the Dodgers juggernaut invades Chicago’s South Side to take on the last place White Sox. The Dodgers are 9-1 on their last 10 games and have the best record in baseball. If that weren’t enough (and it probably is), the formidable Clayton Kershaw pitches for them tonight. Kersh is, to the surprise of no one, having another Cy Young-quality season. All of those factors led the swarm to one of the highest-confidence decisions they’ve made all season long.
