The MLB season is long, and the heat of an August summer provides a crucible that separates the truly great teams from also-rans. This is the point of the season where the standings start to move a little. Teams that looked to have an easy run of it may falter and start to fall back, for instance. On the other hand, races that were close can sometimes start to open up, as the true quality is revealed and the better team pulls away. Coming off an 8-5 performance on Tuesday, here’s what the swarm predicts for tonight around the league.
Last year after a torrid start, one team that seemed to find some August blahs was the Houston Astros. This year, they appeared set to copy that, only this time with the streaking Oakland Athletics hot on their heels. The Astros have begun to play better baseball, and tonight they get arguably their most valuable position player – Carlos Correia — back after a six week injury absence. They face Seattle this evening, and though the Mariners have been playing well the swarm loves Houston in this spot.
This is a matchup of two division rivals who as recently as six weeks ago were running neck and neck in the AL West. However, here we can see that the swarm looks like they believe that Houston is turning on the jets. The replay shows a large number of magnets pulling towards Houston’s side of the hex in a nearly full consensus that the Astros will win the contest.
