It’s not often that a man who has led his team to 6 consecutive NBA finals and is widely considered one of the best – if not the best – players of all time is considered an underdog, but that’s where Lebron James finds himself at the 2016 NBA Finals. After the Warriors’ historic regular season, most experts picked Golden State to win their second consecutive championship, and months ago the UNU community even predicted that they would beat Lebron’s Cavaliers to do so.
With all that said, it’s perhaps not surprising that when we asked a Swarm to predict the NBA Finals this week, UNU once again said that the Warriors would defeat the Cavaliers. You can see that replay below.
Considering the widespread confidence that the Warriors will defend their championship, our researchers wanted to see what else UNU would have to say about the NBA Finals. Here are five more predictions from UNU.
First, UNU believes the series will be as close as last year’s six game showdown between the Warriors and Cavaliers.
But, unlike last year’s finals when sixth man Andre Igoudala emerged as the unlikely hero of the NBA Finals, the Swarm has confidence that Stephen Curry’s dominant season will culminate in being named Finals MVP.
The Warriors were able to win an NBA record 73 games this season in large part because they also made an NBA regular season record 938 three pointers. The Swarm believes that trend will continue into the playoffs.
Still, despite Klay Thompson having made an incredible 11 three pointers in Game 6 against the Thunder in the last round of the playoffs, the Swarm believes that Ray Allen’s record for hitting eight three pointers in an NBA Finals game is safe.
Finally, our researchers asked UNU to weigh in on one more major story in the NBA: Kevin Durant’s pending free agency. Since KD is one of the five best players in the league by almost any measure, the debate about what he’ll do when he hits the free agent market has been one of the hottest stories in the league all year. But, Thunder fans need not worry, at least according to UNU:
As always, if you want to join the Swarm and talk sports, politics, or anything else, just drop by UNU at any time. See you there!
