The NBA season is at the halfway point, and it’s reasonable to think that teams have mostly revealed what they’re about at this point.  Clubs like Miami and Minnesota have played better than expectations. Teams like Oklahoma City and Memphis have been worse…maybe much worse. The 40 games in the season to date, however, all represent data points and pieces of information that the weekly NBA Swarm can use offer insight into a fully-scheduled evening like tonight.

The swarm’s pick of the night is first-place Golden State, who host the Clippers this evening. Blake Griffin is out with a concussion, and the swarm expects the Warriors to be able to win this even if Steph Curry’s ankle is barking. An interesting game in the top tier this week, however, is Denver hosting Atlanta.

The Nuggets have lost two straight, but tonight they’re defending their home court against the worst team in the league in the Atlanta Hawks. The swarm’s overwhelming confidence in this game – as shown in the replay above and fortified with a $100 hypothetical wager – is likely only partially a result of Denver being capable. This feels very much like a dynamic sometimes seen in this season’s NFL swarms, when the group would elevate whichever team played the hapless Cleveland Browns.  That work well in football, and it will be interesting to see how it plays out in pro hoops.
