The NHL playoffs got underway two weeks ago, and with the first round complete the original playoff predictions by our first swarm to consider these matchups look pretty good. That swarm got seven of eight first-round winners correct, only missing on the San Jose Sharks’ surprisingly fast dismissal of Anaheim.
Earlier today Unanimous AI brought the swarm back to reconsider the playoffs with that first round in the books. With some playoff hockey data to look at, did the swarm’s opinion of any teams change? Did they see a different winner this time out?
As the chart above shows, the second swarm of NHL fans remained consistent to their predictions from two weeks ago. They agreed with their earlier predictions on conference finalists and the eventual Stanley Cup winner. If there’s a major difference at all, it is in how closely fought they predict some of the forthcoming playoff series will be.
In the first round of the playoffs, there was only one series that went to seven games. The swarm predicts that seven-game series could become the norm heading into the second round and beyond. Even in the replay above, showing one of the swarm’s most confident series predictions, there’s still enough dissent to introduce some doubt in the prediction of Predators over Jets.
